Many regard Peñafiel as the oldest and most respected mineral water in Mexico. Founded in 1928 in Tehuacán, Puebla by the Peñafiel family, the brand was first bottled in San Nicholas, Tetitzinla. In little more than a decade, the brand expanded beyond its humble beginnings and into Mexico at large.

Cadbury Schweppes plc acquired Peñafiel in 1992, adding the historic mineral water to a family that includes dozens of other unique and historic brands. Peñafiel has continued to grow under Cadbury Schweppes management, rolling out popular line extensions and innovative packaging.
